Since my first trip to Co.Kerry in 2005 I’ve returned to Ireland most years.  As with Shetland, I have experienced it in all weather conditions from calm hot summer days through bleak wet summer days to fierce storms with ferocious gusting whirlwinds whipping through the village.  Once i tried sleeping in my van far up on the headland road but got a little un-easy as the gusts rocked and shoved the van downhill.  It was perhaps my proximity to the steep side downwards to the sea that added extra caution to my mind.  It was this year that I understood why the ancient villagers had re-located the village around the corner to it’s present position.
